Over the last 5 years the entries have been judged by prestigious figures such as Stephen Fry, Bill Oddie, Michael Frayn and Declan Donnellan, and the 2007 winning play, Coat by Rory Mullarkey, went on to receive high acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Last year's winner was Scarlett Creme with her play 'Dad'.

This new prize was started a few years ago in memory of Harry Porter, Footlights' Senior Archivist from 1962 until his death in 2003.
